Rabbit Hole
Starting in August of 2018 I purchased a 4.7 stroker for my Jeep. I received the engine and opted for a local shop to install it. I was disappointed when I got the engine since it was in need of a camshaft button and spring which was discontinued by Jeep. After all that was finally resolved by me having to purchase one from ebay. I did speak to Eric in the technician department and he was not very understanding.

The engine was installed by a top rated shop in Arizona. The install included new fan clutch, synchronizer and other parts. They performed the break in procedure and made sure everything was was completed. I got the Jeep back and took a road trip. I drove about 150 miles to Northern Arizona. I monitored the oil pressure, temperature and took my time. When I stopped for fuel near my destination I filled up the tank and started the vehicle. I noticed a ticking sound so I checked under the hood and fluid levels which were good. I contacted the mechanic shop owner who happened to be coming up where I was. I havent driven the Jeep and waited for him on Saturday. When he arrived, he listed to it and also checked the fluid levels and found normal conditions. He said it was a piston rod issue. Additionally, I drove with care, I have not drove offroad.

I sent an email to ATK and the salesman who I bought it from, Matt Helms.

I plan to trailer the vehicle back to the shop this next week. I also plan to call them Monday morning.

The shop, Sundland Automotive and the owner, Scott said he would also call. He told me he had installed your engines in the past and had only one issue which you took care of immediately. I hope you would do the same with me.

I retired from a career in law enforcement and am a veteran. I have limited resources and this was a retirement gift to myself. I also hunt and have an elk hunt next month.

The Jeep was down three weeks waiting for the engine to arrive and the order of the discontinued part needed. Now it appears it will be down a couple weeks more.

Its October 2nd, and the shop removed the engine. Prior to removing the engine, they diagnosed it and believed the knock was from inside the engine. The tech from ATK was sent a video and he said he thought it was a cracked manifold.

A bit more research by the shop uncovered metal in the oil. The engine has to go back to ATK. The interesting thing was I also messaged ATK on Facebook and one response was it may be a bad cam. They said its nobodies fault.

I did not know of these reviews but had I known, it I would have gone with Golan or Titan engines.
