DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET TO THIS PLACE!!!! Beverly Oaks Animal Hospital almost killed our dog, Coco. She was a hit by a car on 9/11, didn't know where to take her, googled vets in Sherman Oaks and they came up first. We met with Dr. Turner who advised she needed surgery to repair a broken femur. He first told us Coco would have surgery at 7:00 am but when I called around 4:00 pm (since I had not heard from him) to see how things went I was told he had not performed the surgery yet. He didn't until about 4:00 am the following day. No explanation was provided for the delay. He also told us that Coco had an EXCELLENT chance of making a full recovery due to her excellent state of health and because of her age; 11 months old. We took Coco home the evening after her surgery and not a week later, she began to show signs of an infection. She had a foul odor and discharge coming from her wounds, she was not eating, and had horrible diarrhea. My boyfriend and I took Coco in and some idiot doctor examined her for about 2 minutes. Told us the discharge and odor was "NORMAL" and when I asked about her not eating and being out of it he responded, "SHE'S JUST HAVING AN OFF DAY!!" Turns out he was having an off day 'cause when I took her in 2 days later when I could no longer stand the odor - it was determined Coco had a serious infection. Met with Dr. Leach who was a total bitch, tried to tell us "these things happen" but we insisted on knowing why and how and her response was..."she either licked herself or sat on her feces. Neither was a possibility as Coco was wearing an e-collar 24 hours a day and if she happened to have sat on her on feces, we would have noticed!! We insisted she do a culture, they did and put her on antibiotics. For the next two months, we were in and out of the hospital as Coco developed over 4 different infections. She was walking around bleeding from her wounds almost 2 months after her surgery - I don't think you have to be a board certified vet to know this is NOT NORMAL. But that's what they kept telling us; Dr. Leach, Dr. Turner and every other person we saw there. "This is normal after a surgery". Final straw - Dr. Turner called advising that the new culture test indicated Coco had yet another infection. Our options, operate again or amputate her leg. My boyfriend and I decided we no longer could trust Dr. Turner or anyone else at Beverly Oaks and decided to seek a second opinion. Someone recommended California Animal Hospital Veterinary Specialty Group. We took her in the same day we received the recommendation and met with Dr. Buote. She examined Coco and advised Coco was VERY SICK. It was determined that the cultures done at Beverly Oaks were not done properly which meant the antibiotics given were never treating the actual infection. It was also determined, the pin placed inside Coco's leg was placed to high and had been rubbing against her sciatic nerve. The damage was profound and sadly Coco would NEVER have a full recovery but she would be able to save her leg. To add insult to injury, I called early in the morning and advised Beverly Oaks that I was taking Coco for a second opinion and asked that her records be faxed to Dr. Boute. When I arrived at 4:00 pm for my appointment I was advised they had not received the fax. After about 15 calls from me and 5 from Dr. Boute they finally faxed the records but NEVER sent the Xrays. We called Dr. Turner and advised that after careful evaluation of the entire process we concluded that it was in Coco's best interest to seek a second opinion and upon the advice of a board certified surgical specialist, we decided that we would pursue treatment at an alternative facility. Furthermore, we advised it was our sincere wish that due to obvious NEGLIGIBLE MALPRACTICE we be refunded $3251.29; which is the total amount of expenses incurred for Coco's treatment while treated at Beverly Oaks Animal Hospital. Additionally, Coco's health has been profoundly compromised as a result of negligence on behalf of their facility. It's our opinion that the facility missed multiple opportunities to provide timely and accurate diagnosis of Coco's condition that could have alleviated setbacks associated with the acquisition of several new bacterial strains, which caused Coco to suffer an enormous amount of unnecessary pain and discomfort, as well as irreparable damage to her leg. He advised we needed to write a letter which we did and hand delivered to him. BEVERLY OAKS HAS YET TO RESPOND TO US!!!! Edit Remove
